"The connection of Castello di Meleto with wine dates back to the 11th century with the Benedictine monks, but the first written mention of its name dates back to 1256. Its recent history began in 1968 with the 'Vineyards Operation,' the first Italian crowdfunding initiative in the wine world, thanks to the intuition of Gianni Mazzocchi, publisher of Quattroruote and Quattrosoldi magazines.
The latter magazine was dedicated to enthusiasts of economics and finance: it was proposed to these readers to purchase shares of an Italian heritage that risked being abandoned. Thus, Viticola Toscana was born, now Castello di Meleto Società Agricola, owner of the Castle and over 1100 hectares of land.”
